David Okali is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of NEST. He is a founding member who has been closely associated with the organization since its establishment in 1987, and the focal point for NEST's interactions in the RING of sustainable development organizations anchored by IIED. He was chairman of the National Committee of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in Nigeria from 1978 to 2001, and president of the Nigerian Academy of Science, 2006 - 2009. David Okali is an emeritus professor of forest ecology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he worked as a lecturer until his retirement in 2001. His career interests cover the environment and society, sustainable development, natural resources management and conservation. Current engagement is in building Nigeria's response to climate change, through community- based pilot projects feeding into the formulation of national policy. This resulted recently in the formulation of a National Adaptation Strategy and Plan of Action on Climate Change for Nigeria.
